Field Station

Our location provides:

  • Access to over 300,000 ha of private and public lands
  • An environmental gradient ranging in elevation from 1,100 m to 3,600 m
  • Proximity to Canyonlands National Park as a control area
  • Access to long-term data sets, going back 20-30 years

Our research facility includes:

  • A field-prep lab with basic lab equipment, freezer and cold storage, drying racks and oven, and more
  • Internet access
  • GIS capability
  • Meteorological station
  • On-site fueling for vehicles (unleaded and diesel)

Living accommodations:

  • Eight double-occupancy tent cabins with cots, mattresses, desks and chairs
  • Campground
  • Outdoor kitchen pavilion with gas cook stove and potable water
  • Toilet facilities
  • Solar hot water showers (3)

The Canyonlands Research Center structures are designed to blend harmoniously into the landscape, with strict control of light pollution and visual impacts. To the extent possible, the overall facility is carbon-neutral and its ongoing operation exemplifies sustainable design and management principles.
